Requiem for Liviu (Live you) Librescu, the Gandalf of Virginia Tech

I heard something about Professor Liviu(Live you) Librescu reminding them of Gandalf on The Morning in America Bennett Program and went a looking. The quote I believe they referred to from the Lord of the Rings was:
  • Gandalf: "You cannot pass... I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the Flame of Anor. The Dark Flame will not avail you, Flame of Udun. Go back to the shadow. You shall not pass!"
Indeed this scene from Tolkien's Movie: Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is so very appropriate for this Heroic Professor who saved 21 of his students. In the process I stumbled over a Poem, at BillyBlog, written for this Amazing Man by poet William Dickerson Cohen's. His words capture the mind-boggling valor of this Life Giving Man and are so stirring and heart felt. Indeed this is a fitting Requiem Hymn or Composition for this Patron Saint of the 21st Century against Terrorism:
Billyblog
You were thirteen when the War ended.
Did you have a bar mitzvah?
Surely you must have remembered
the swastikas and the hateful glances.
And now, sixty years later,
your body lies waiting
to go home to Israel.

What the Nazis couldn't do
was done, indiscriminately,
in your second home, the classroom.
The gunman's bullets
ripped through the barricaded door,
ending your life.
Your students, some of them, if not all,
will forever associate your name
with the sparing of their lives.
Your name will be in their prayers
and the blessings of their thankful families.
Your dying moment, surely, will be burned
into the memories of those you helped save.

All I know of you
is the photograph and
four short paragraphs in
The New York Times.

I imagine you rising with singed wings
out of the ashes of Europe,
soaring through life,
teaching with passion,
giving your life to your students
giving your life for your students
giving your life
dying so they might live.

Virginia Tech University's Killer and his Independent Film Distributor NB-Cho

Diagnosis of NB-Cho

Was NBC-ho hearing Voices? No. Was he having Hallucinations? No. Did he think he was someone other than himself? Like say Napoleon, Alexander the Great? No!

Following Definitions come from American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry:
  • Hallucination: A sensory perception (seeing, hearing, feeling, and smelling) in the absence of an outside stimulus. For example, with auditory hallucinations, the person hears voices when there is no one talking
Was he Delusional? Yes
  • Delusion: A false, fixed, odd, or unusual belief firmly held by the patient. The belief is not ordinarily accepted by other members of the person's culture or subculture. There are delusions of paranoia (others are plotting against them), grandiose delusions (exaggerated ideas of one's importance or identity), and somatic delusions (a healthy person believing that he/she has a terminal illness).
Was Cho Schizophrenic? Perhaps a very milder case when you consider the wide spectrum of conditions this covers. version
  • Schizophrenia ; ;
A psychotic disorder characterized by severe problems with a person's thoughts, feelings, behavior, and use of words and language. Psychotic symptoms often include delusions and/or hallucinations. These delusions in schizophrenia are often paranoid and persecutory in nature. Hallucinations are usually auditory and may include hearing voices speaking in the third person, as well as to each other, commenting on the patient's deeds and actions. Schizophrenia does not mean "split personality." Most people develop schizophrenia before 30 years of age with some having their first episode in the teenage years
The American Heritage Science Dictionary - Cite This Source
psychosis (sî-kô'sĭs) Pronunciation Key
Plural psychoses (sî-kô'sçz)
A mental state caused by psychiatric or organic illness, characterized by a loss of contact with reality and an inability to think rationally. A psychotic person often behaves inappropriately and is incapable of normal social functioning.

NBC-ho had a very deliberate and planned out strategy with much research, scheming, arms procurement, research of other groups 911, Columbine and working out with weights so he would look good on his Video. This NBC-ho was a smart killer like the Una-bomber period. The Psychiatry Specialty of Medicine keeps trying to objectify a subjective area of Medicine. Thus, they change and expand the definitions and in effect dilute them. The Best definition is the Classic One I've listed.

Indeed NB-Cho had a sickness but not in his Brain but in his Heart and Soul. He did not snap, he duped NBC and got them to give him a World Premiere that dwarfs any book and movie in history. Talk about a sick sick marketing campaign for an Independent film. NB-Cho did a bad thing and Brian Williams runs to hide underneath Oh-Fluff's skirt on the Oprah Show. Brian compares his actions to the Nobility of the Abu Griab incident. Another failure on their pat in my opinion. The No Brains Clowns will have blood on their hands with the next copy cat imitates this MONSTER. The NB-Cho should be ignored into bankruptcy.

This Monster hated everybody and everything. I have treated Psychotics and this guy was not one. If what Psychiatrists say is true then every socially unacceptable thing a criminal or person can be excused as a Psychotic Varietal of Schizophrenia. Sorry but I do not buy his American Psychiatry Association gobbly gook.

This Humanoid was a Monster and is a harden killer like so many in history. Was John Wilkes Booth, Timothy McVey, Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, Saddam Hussein PSYCHOTIC or SCHIZOPHRENIC? NO! Do Psychotropic Meds work? Sometimes... Sometimes not...sometimes Antipyschotics cause major problems like Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome(I have a patient whose muscle have been frozen and short circuited by the drugs and is a stiff as a board throughout her body including her eyelids and is confined to a bed) and Serotonergic Syndrome. Cho is a heartless killer just like the Others I have mentioned.

Liviu Librescu had more cause to be a disgruntled and self-loathing coward, hater and killer for the hardships and culture alienation he suffered in his life. However, he had the Spirit of Jesus but was not a Christian and like Jesus an amazing Jew. Liviu Librescu gave up his life for his fellow man!

Liviu Librescu's life was better than the Movie "Its a Wonderful Life" because it was REAL and he has a List of People he saved as well as advancing the science of Aeronautical Engineering in his lifetime!
Librescu had a million strikes against him but he made Cognac out of sour grapes!
He deserves a Monument not for his Glory but for our benefit so that the Occidental World will follow his example. It would built to honor him but would be for us to teach us how to fight back. Maybe that boob Senator Reid would learn something. I urge all to focus on something constructive like the short but treasured lives of these young and beautiful people who were chopped down in the prime of their lives. Think that this could happen to more like them unless we emulate the late Great Professor Librescu.

Hundreds attend funeral of Prof. Liviu Librescu, the teacher who died saving his students in the Virginia Tech massacre
April 20, 2007, 2:08 PM (GMT+02:00)
The world-class professor of aeronautic engineering was laid to rest, aged 77, in the Israeli town of Raanana Friday. Present were a representative of the US embassy and an envoy of the Romanian president, who presented his widow and two sons the Star of Romania medal in recognition of his courage and contribution to science. He was also honored for bravery by President Bush and the college heads.
Professor Liviu and Marilana Librescu were Holocaust survivors whom the late prime minister Menahem Beigin helped migrate from Romania by interceding with communist president Nikola Ceaucescu. After some years in Israel, where his sons grew up, the professor took a sabbatical in the United States, staying on to teach at Virginia Tech for twenty years. He was also an adviser to NASA. No Israeli government representative was present at his funeral.

"What if killer can't grasp meaning of execution?" Virginia Tech Killer was not PSYCHOTIC!

Here is more Info on this Forensic Psychologist Dr. Lynne Eccelston:

Additionally I found this article that went to press last Monday, yes Black Monday at Virgina Tech when that Monster killed those innocent and promising young adults.  What is so good about this article is that it describes what I believe from my training as an M.D. are killers who better fit your use to the term Psychotic Killer.  It also is short and would be a good reference article for you should you interview any more Shrinks.

NBC got played for a fool by a Monster and I'm sure that gave the Monster added pleasure in his sick heart and putrid soul.
Hope you find this useful.
"What if killer can't grasp meaning of execution?"

  • In the decade before he shot his in-laws dead in the Texas Hill Country, Scott Panetti was hospitalized 14 times for schizophrenia and psychotic delusions. He heard voices and fought with various personalities in his fractured mind. He once planted his furniture in the ground and watered it, believing it to be possessed.
Yet a Gillespie County jury deemed him fit to stand trial for capital murder in the 1992 slayings, and a judge allowed him to represent himself despite objections from even the prosecutor. Dressed in a purple cowboy outfit with a hat dangling from a string around his neck, Panetti flipped a coin to choose his jurors, ranted incomprehensibly and tried to subpoena everyone from President Kennedy to Jesus Christ.
The jury rejected his insanity defense and sentenced him to death.
Every mental health expert to evaluate Panetti agrees he is mentally ill. But on Wednesday, his lawyer, Keith Hampton of Austin, will ask the U.S. Supreme Court to answer a more difficult question: Is Panetti now so insane that he should be spared execution because he cannot grasp the fact that his punishment is the result of his crime?
Because, while Panetti, 49, understands that his estranged wife's parents — Amanda and Joe Alvarado, of Fredericksburg — were killed and that the state says he is to be executed for that crime, he doesn't believe it. Panetti, known as the "preacher" of Texas' death row, insists the real reason he is to be put to death is that the state, in league with the devil, is trying to silence him from delivering the Gospel to fellow inmates.
It was left to the states to determine just how condemned killers should be evaluated for mental competency.
    There is no consensus.
  • Silverman said he and other psychiatrists are convinced Panetti's symptoms are real. His view of the murders and the reason he thinks he faces execution have remained consistent since his conviction, Silverman said, and the delusions he suffers now are essentially the same as those he has suffered for decades.
Silverman said that while Panetti is aware his in-laws were killed while his estranged wife and their 3-year-old daughter watched, he believes an alternate personality named "Sarge Ironhorse" killed them. He also does not comprehend that execution would result in his death because he believes he is immortal, Silverman said.
  • Other recent Texas inmates with severe mental illness already have been executed.
Kelsey Patterson was put to death in 2004 despite a rare 5-1 recommendation by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles that his life be spared because of his severe schizophrenia. Gov. Rick Perry rejected the recommendation.
The effort to have a court declare him incompetent was hampered by Patterson's refusal to cooperate, just as Panetti refused to cooperate with mental health experts recommended by prosecutors because he thought they were against him.
Patterson was so delusional that he insisted his plate of beans was talking to him and that he could not be executed because he had been granted amnesty. In the execution chamber, when asked if he had a final statement, Patterson replied, "Statement to what? Statement to what?"
"I'm not guilty of the charge of capital murder," he said. "They're doing this to steal my money. ... Give me my rights. Give me my life back."
Monty Delk's execution in 2002 was similarly bizarre. Delk claimed he was the prison warden and demanded to be removed from the execution chamber. "Get your warden off this gurney and shut up," Delk said. After a string of profanities, Delk blurted, "You are not in America. This is the island of Barbados. People will see you doing this."
As with Patterson, only the lethal drugs ended his babbling.
James Colburn, put to death in 2003, suffered from schizophrenia beginning in adolescence, spoke of hearing voices and once complained of a man living inside his stomach. He believed his execution was God's way of punishing him.
This does not sound like the Calculating and Scheming Virginia Tech Killer

Please stop claiming that the Virginia Tech Killer had a Psychotic Diagnosis

I wish people on TV and Radio would quite calling the VTech Killer Psychotic.  It implies a Medical Illness and this guy did his home work.  He was goal directed.  Special Forces, Special Ops, Military, Spooks and our fighter Pilots are taught to make sure you kill your targets.  2 bullets to the Chest and 1 to the head.  The Killer did this. Over 175 rounds used.
  • Just over three weeks earlier he bought two ammo clips for his Walther P22 handgun on auction website eBay.
He used the trading name "Blazers5505" to buy the clips on March 22 from a gun shop in Idaho.
Cho was a regular trader on eBay and also sold many books about violence and death. He had also visited a firing range at least three times and practiced using his handguns by firing at a cardboard box 25 yards away.

They delayed the release all the bodies because the families can not ID the Bodies w/o dental records and or finger prints.  Why because the blew their heads off just like Military People do.  Furthermore he used chains to look people in and lock the cops out.

  • Delay brings further grief

  • Family members were frustrated Wednesday that they could neither see nor claim the bodies of students killed in Monday's Virginia Tech shooting rampage.

A lengthy official identification process has kept friends and relatives from the next step in their grieving, and delayed arrangements for funerals out of state or, in some cases, overseas.

University President Charles W. Steger met with families at The Inn at Virginia Tech and told them most of the victims' bodies could not be released for burial.

So far, the bodies of nine of 32 victims have been identified and released
    .

  • Vtech killer photographed 30 bullets, then shot 30 dead
However, Dr Eccleston said Cho was unlikely to have been the typical psychopathic killer as many have labelled him, instead suggesting he probably had a "schitzotypal personality disorder".
A schitzotypal person is characterized by social isolation, "bizarre" behavior, paranoias and unusual thinking and speech
  • FBI profilers had a term for murderers such as Cho - the "mission-orientated killer".
"This is the killer who is not delusional in the sense that he doesn't hear voices demanding him to kill but he is absolutely compelled to kill because he feels that he needs to rid the world of a group of people that he judges to be unworthy or undesirable in the community ... he sees himself as some sort of vigilante martyr."

His video and written materials make reference to Literary Characters Ishmael of Moby Dick, Ismail Bush, Ismail Ax, Columbine and 911.  This guy sent it to NBC cuz their ratings were in the tank and he knew they would play it for the ratings.  He got the largest Premiere for his Home Movie ever(Bigger than the Blair Witch Project).  Psychotic people are not so calculating.  This guy was smart like a Jackal and as evil as Richard Speck,  BTK Killer and Ted Bundy
  • The killer of room 2121
  • By the time Cho claimed his first victim, he had already been planning his attack for weeks, possibly months. Not that anyone knew it. Cho was a solitary figure on campus, even among the five students with which he shared a 'suite', Room 2121. He spoke rarely and shunned human contact. His only visitors were his parents. 'He never showed any interest in having conversations with anybody. He seemed like a shy person. He never spoke a word when he was around any of us in the suite,' said one room-mate, Karan Grewal.
In the past few weeks, Cho's routines seem to have shifted. He started going to the gym, beefing up his slight frame. He cut his hair short. He started waking up earlier, rising at 5.30am. He began taking night-time bike rides, disappearing for hours to roam the campus paths.
These were the superficial changes. Unknown to anyone but himself, Cho was plotting mass murder. Nineteen days before he began shooting, he took a road-trip, renting a car and staying a night in a nearby hotel in Christiansburg. It was on this trip that he would film some of his rambling, hate-laden last testament. It is likely that he also used the privacy to take pictures of himself posing with his guns, a knife and a hammer. He also began drafting manuscripts blaming the outside world and decrying the lifestyles of his fellow students.
Cho prepared in private. But police are checking to see if he had mentioned or hinted at his plans, whether by phone or email. He certainly had to buy his guns in public. Tragically, it is neither difficult nor unusual for a 23-year-old student legally to buy powerful weapons in Virginia. On 9 February, Cho purchased a Walther P22 pistol from a pawn shop on Main Street in Blacksburg. He then waited just over a month - in order to comply with Virginia state law - before buying a second weapon. On 16 March, he picked out a Glock semi-automatic from Roanoke Firearms, in a town about 30 miles away. With each purchase Cho filled out the correct forms and passed a background check. No one asked what a 23-year-old English student could possibly want with two powerful hand-guns.
People are confused by Psychiatrists on the airwaves as Psychiatric Definitions are always changing and being changed by tha American Psychiatria Association. Psychiatry is a Liberal and Dangerous Lobby changing all the definitions of Morality and Evil.  The V-Tech Killer was not Psychotic!  He was a Hater of Life and wanted to take out 30 people.  Why thirty, who knows.  Is 30 a significant number in some book he read.  Jesus was 33 when he died.  Or was it a pragmatic choice as he figured that was the amount he could kill the guns and ammo he had before the cops would break in.  Either way it was thought out.  Psychotics are much more random.  Please stop calling him Psychotic.  Call him a Hateful Monster who was a Coward killing innocence and getting a kick out of getting a Movie Premiere with his SICK and Macabre Script!

Even Rush said that we are in a Catch 22.  You can not protect yourself against Nuts like this one because they are protected by the Psychiatric Field and Privacy issues.  What about the Collective Good of Society?  For PC reasons you can not do the right thing in our Country.  NB-Cho are weasles and jerks!

Virgina Tech Killer was not a Psychotic

Here is a good and Short Review by an Australian Dr Lynne Eccleston, a forensic psychologist at Melbourne University after watching the chilling multimedia package sent by Cho to NBC. Eccelson Psychologist and her Diagnostic Impressions of the V-Tech Killer I found her via the Brisbane Times (great article on the Killer).

Not Psychopathic and certainly not Psychotic but one with a "schitzotypal personality disorder".  I think he was plain Evil but for those who insist on a Psych Diagnosis.  It'll be changed to another Diagnosis. in the next DSM Classification.  These definitions are ever evolving as are the diagnoses in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders now version(4)DSM-IV.  Here is her profile http://www.criminology.unimelb.edu.au/forensic/
Reports by Pyschiatric experts I've heard in the US are wrong and confusing.  I strongly doubt Medication would have helped this Mass Murdered with a Malignant Spirit.  He was a shrewd and cold blooded killer and simply a Misanthrope.  Like Mark Steyn-way stated on the Hugh Hewitt show that NBC-ho was an accomplice and as Hugh Hewitt declared this network will have blood on their hands, after copycat strikes, for being played like a tune by this Monster.  The NBC and MSM have no conscious nor concept of decency.  They are hiding behind the first Amendment and pushing a Liberal and Nihilist Agenda with a new Secular Morality.  Psychology has replaced common decency based on Morality which is the fruit of that "Old Time Religion."

The Ten Commandments and the Morality which flowered from it and gave birth to our Declaration of Independence and Democratic Constitutional System of Government.  We do not need to fix what isn't broken.

President Bush pays tribute to the Memory and Courage of Liviu Librescu

President Bush spoke about Romanian born Hero Liviu Librescu
From Romanian-gymnastics.com
WASHINGTON / April 18 President George W. Bush has visited today the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington. During his speech he mentioned the Romanian born Hero Liviu Librescu:
"Our flags fly at half-mast in memory of 32 souls whose lives were taken at Virginia Tech on Monday morning. That day we saw horror, but we also saw acts of quiet courage. We saw this courage in a teacher named Liviu Librescu. With the gunman set to enter his class, this brave professor blocked the door with his body while his students fled to safety. On the Day of Remembrance, this Holocaust survivor gave his own life so that others might live. And this morning we honor his memory, and we take strength from his example."

Curriculum Vitae for Liviu(Life) Librescu

Romanian-born lecturer Liviu Librescu saved some of his students.

BUCHAREST, Romania/ Liviu Librescu, a Romanian born who survived the Nazi killings and later escaped from Communist Romania, was one of several foreign victims of Monday's shootings, which coincided with Israel's Holocaust remembrance day.

The e-mails from grateful students arrived soon after Liviu Librescu was shot to death, telling how the Holocaust survivor barricaded the doorway of his Virginia Tech classroom and saved their lives at the cost of his own.
"My father blocked the doorway with his body and asked the students to flee," Librescu's son, Joe Librescu, said Tuesday in a telephone interview from his home outside Tel Aviv. "Students started opening windows and jumping out." Joe Librescu, who studied at Virginia Tech from 1989 to 1994, said his mother received e-mails from students shortly after learning of her husband's death. The gunman, identified as Cho Seung-Hui - a 23-year-old English major and native of South Korea - killed 32 people, then committed suicide.
President of Romania Traian Basescu, Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu and Minister of Foreign Affairs Adrian Cioroianu sent today messages of condolences to their US counterparts expressing sincere regrets for the tragic deaths of 33 students and professors in the incidents at Virginia Tech University on April 16 th , 2007 . Romanian authorities expressed solidarity with the American people in these tragic moments of profound distress. The romanian authorities also addressed heartfelt condolences to the family of Professor Liviu Librescu American-Israeli citizen of Romanian origin and a victim of the attacks at Virginia Tech, conveying their compassion for the tragic loss.
The academic community in Romania also was mourning Librescu's death. "It is a great loss," said Ecaterina Andronescu, rector of the Polytechnic University in Bucharest, where Librescu graduated with a degree in mechanics and aviation construction in 1953. "We have immense consideration for the way he reacted and defended his students with his life."     At the Bucharest university, people placed flowers on a table holding his picture and a lit candle. "We remember him as a great specialist in aeronautics. He left behind hundreds of prestigious papers," said professor Nicolae Serban Tomescu.
Liviu Librescu, who specialized in composite structures and aeroelasticity, published extensively and received numerous awards for his work. He received a doctorate from the Bucharest-based Academy of Sciences in 1969, and an honorary degree from the Bucharest Polytechnic University in 2000. He also received several NASA grants and taught courses at the University "La Sapienza" in Rome and at the Tel Aviv University in Israel.

Librescu's List
saved  Many Students' Lives
"My father blocked the doorway with his body and asked the students to flee," Librescu's son, Joe Librescu, said Tuesday in a telephone interview from his home outside Tel Aviv. "Students started opening windows and jumping out."

And noone in his room died except for him!...

The Students who lived because Liviu(Life) Librescu fought the Killer

Peter Read the father of 19 year slain Mary Karen Read IMAGE: MARY KAREN READ takes the Journalistic Broadcast Media to task for their Ratings Gluttony:

  • As the Reads left Blacksburg on Thursday for their home in Annandale, they were exhausted, pale, heartbroken - and furious. On television, the overwhelming image of the tragedy was the face of Cho Seung-Hui - a killer whose name Peter Read cannot bring himself to speak.
  • "I want to issue a direct personal plea, to all the major media,'' he(Peter Read) told The Associated Press. "For the love of God and our children, stop broadcasting those images and those words. Choose to focus on life and the love and the light that our children brought into the world and not on the darkness and the madness and the death.''
  • ``We want the world to know and celebrate our children's lives, and we believe that's the central element that brings hope in the midst of great tragedy,'' Read said Thursday, with his wife, Cathy, at his side. ``These kids were the best that their generation has to offer.''
    from the Guardian
Peter Read's daughter, Mary Karen, was born in South Korea into an Air Force family and lived in Texas and California before settling in the northern Virginia suburb of Annandale.
Understandibly the Reads cna't talk about their grief over these past few days. as "It's too painful, too personal. The time is not yet right." Mr Read wisely hopes the focus will swing back to the children.

Mr. Read hits the target.  Focus on the Lives of these innocent victims and build a Monument to them and the Professor who saved students like them.....Dr. Liviu(Life) Librescu

Meanwhile, when the gunman left room 207, he headed to room 204 where Dr. Liviu Librescu was showing slides to engineering students. They heard the gunshots coming from room 207 but didn't believe it at first. "A steady pop, pop, pop, pop," student Richard Mallalieu told the Post. The gunfire was "more or less continuous." Then they heard the screams. At first, the students in 204 hit the floor, while the professor held the classroom door closed. Then the students opened the windows and started jumping out of the second story classroom onto the grass below. "It was scary," he said, "but it wasn't as panicked as you might think it was." When the gunman got into the classroom, he shot the remaining students, as well as Professor Librescu, who died. Mallalieu and the others who managed to jump out the window ran for safety to another classroom building. Mallalieu told the Post he heard about 40 shots coming from his room 204. from Netscape

another Report:

Inside Norris, the attack began with a thunderous sound from Room 206 - ``what sounded like an enormous hammer,'' said Alec Calhoun, a 20-year-old junior who was in a solid mechanics lecture in a classroom next door.
Screams followed an instant later, and the banging continued. When students realized the sounds were gunshots, Calhoun said, he started flipping over desks to make hiding places. Others dashed to the windows of the second-floor classroom, kicking out the screens and jumping from the ledge of Room 204, he said.
``I must've been the eighth or ninth person who jumped, and I think I was the last,'' said Calhoun, of Waynesboro, Va. He landed in a bush and ran.
Calhoun said that the two students behind him were shot, but that he believed they survived. Just before he climbed out the window, Calhoun said, he turned to look at his professor, who had stayed behind, apparently to prevent the gunman from opening the door.
The instructor was killed, Calhoun said.

Amid the horror at Virginia Tech were tales of heroism during the rampage, including an older professor - himself a Holocaust survivor - who gave his life to protect his students.

Romanian-born Liviu Librescu, a dual US-Israeli citizen, moved two decades ago to the United States where he taught in the Engineering Science and Mechanics Department at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Although he was 76, long past the usual retirement age, he was still teaching at Virginia Tech yesterday when chaos erupted in Norris Hall, the campus building where a gunman identified as Cho Seung-Hui, 23, opened fire, killing 30 people people before committing suicide.
Students described how the septuagenarian Librescu used his body to barricade the door against Cho so they could escape by jumping out the classroom's second-floor window. Some broke legs in the fall, but they survived. Librescu was shot to death during the rampage.
An impromptu shrine to the professor was set up on the campus, with flowers and his picture.
"He was an exceptionally tolerant man who mentored scholars from all over our troubled world," Ishwar Puri, his department head, said in a written statement released to the media.
"The people of Israel grieve with all who have been touched by this horrible tragedy and pray for the speedy and complete recovery of the wounded and for the families of those who lost their loved ones," Israel's ambassador to the United States, Sallai Meridor, said.
Julie Faith, 50, a Virginia Tech graduate whose son now attends the university, said Librescu's story moved her to tears. "That was an amazing story. That was what made me really lose it," she said.....

In a German class upstairs, a few students tried to barricade the door against the onslaught of bullets, and then tried to help their injured classmates while they waited for help, Trey Perkins, 20, told Fox News.
Of 15 students in his class, he said only about six came out alive...

Liviu Librescu survived the Nazi Holocaust. He died trying to keep a gunman from shooting his students in a killing spree at Virginia Tech -- a heroic feat later recounted in e-mails from students to his wife.

Librescu, an aeronautics engineer and teacher at the school for 20 years, saved the lives of several students by using his body to barricade a classroom door before he was gunned down in Monday's massacre, which coincided with Holocaust Remembrance Day.

His son, Joe Librescu, The Associated Press on Tuesday that his mother received e-mails from students shortly after learning of her husband's death.

"My father blocked the doorway with his body and asked the students to flee," Joe Librescu said in a telephone interview from his home outside of Tel Aviv. "Students started opening windows and jumping out."

When Romania joined forces with Nazi Germany in World War II, the young Professor and engineer Librescu was interned in a labor camp, and then sent along with his family and thousands of other Jews to a central ghetto in the city of Focsani, his son said. Hundreds of thousands of Romanian Jews were killed by the collaborationist regime during the war.
Librescu, who was 76 when he died, later found work at a government aerospace company. But his career was stymied in the 1970s because he refused to swear allegiance to the Communist regime, his son said, and he was later fired when he requested permission to move to Israel.
In 1977, according to his son, Israel's then-Prime Minister Menachem Begin personally intervened to get the family an emigration permit, and they left for Israel in 1978.
Librescu left Israel for Virginia in 1985 for a sabbatical year, but eventually made the move permanent, said Joe Librescu: "His work was his life in a sense."
The academic community in Romania also was mourning Librescu's death.
"It is a great loss," said Ecaterina Andronescu, rector of the Polytechnic University in Bucharest, where Librescu graduated with a degree in mechanics and aviation construction in 1953. "We have immense consideration for the way he reacted and defended his students with his life."
At the university, people placed flowers on a table holding his picture and a lit candle. "We remember him as a great specialist in aeronautics. He left behind hundreds of prestigious papers," said professor Nicolae Serban Tomescu.
Librescu, who specialized in composite structures and aeroelasticity, published extensively and received numerous awards for his work. He received a doctorate from the Bucharest-based Academy of Sciences in and an honorary degree from the Bucharest Polytechnic University in 2000.
He also received several NASA grants and taught courses at the University "La Sapienza" in Rome and at the Tel Aviv University in Israel.

This is not a biography, just a tribute and a testimony about how God uses all of us in his story, whether we fit the mold of traditional Christianity or not. Liviu Librescu was a Holocaust survivor. During WWII, Librescu was captured and interred in a labor camp in Moldova, and later was transferred to a Jewish ghetto in Focºani, Romania. Many Jewish people were killed during this time; more than 300,000 in Romania alone. But Librescu survived, became a successful engineer, and later emigrated to Israel with his wife, Marlena. They came to the United States in 1985 on a sabbatical, but ended up staying, partly because he was offered a job as a professor in the engineering department at Virginia Tech.
On Monday, when the shooter came to his classroom, 76-year-old Librescu barricaded the door with his body as he told his students to get out through the window. The shooter, not to be deterred, fired his gun over and over, bullets tearing through the door, tearing through Librescu's flesh, flesh that had been spared from the ravages of the Holocaust for such a time as this. He gave his life for his students, young men and women with potential for heroism perhaps on the same scale as their professor's. For what good would it be to survive anti-Semitic hatred, only to be selfish and save your own skin at the ulimate moment of truth?
No, Librescu had been saved for a fateful day at Virginia Tech, some 65 years later. All of his students escaped and survived. It was April 16th, the day of the Virginia Tech massacre. It was also Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Librescu was respected in his field, his son said.
"His work was his life, in a sense," said Joe. "That was a good place for him to practice his research.  Jerusulem Post

Indeed, Mary Karen Read's father is right and let us Focus on the Lives of these talented, promising sons and daughters who enriched the lives of the World that was theirs.  Let us Cherish them and the Man who saved many who would be death also if it were not for his Courage!  Build these People a Monuement and save Virginia Tech
