Mitt Romney who has been dubbed "Matinee Mitt" by the Washington Post's Political blogger, Chris Cillizza gets an A+ for creativity when raising money for his Potential 2008 Presidential Bid.  In addition to a federal Political Action Committee the man who natched the Salt Lake 2002 Winter Olympics from the fiscal insolvency and from becoming a Broadway Comedy "A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum" staring Zero Mostel and Buster Keaton ala Athens 2004 Games gets a sprinters start out of the Blocks in the 08 Presidential Race.  $3.4 million sitting in his War Chest!  Romney has a Commonwealth PAC with five state-based groups or branches

• (Michigan, Iowa, South Carolina, New Hamsphire and Arizona which is not activated yet but perched on deck!) 

that allow donors to go well beyond the federal $2k limits as prescribed by "McCain-Fiengold Finance Reform" 

• The Michigan and Iowa PACs have no limits on donations.
• New Hampshire as a ceiling of $5K . 
• South Carolina comes in at $3.5k

The first four states represent early heats in the Olympics of Politics in the USA.

Me thinks "Matinee Mitt" could also be dubbed Magnate Mitt!  That Harvard MBA came in handy as it has infused this enormously capable Man and Politician an entrepreneurial spirit that keep pals Senators McCain and Fiengold from elbowing out!  Additionally Magnate Mitt has the Upper House's Imprimatur of a Juris Prudence from Harvard too!  Sorry to the Rino, Senator McCain whose Mutiny from the GOP and

Senator Foolsgold's alchemy combined is not enough to keep this son of a former Michigan Govenor and now a Govenor himself aka "Matinee Mitt" from making a strong showing at the Olympic Trials of US Politics......I like his chances and as a Roman Catholic Voter I remember then Senator's JFK's words in his 1960's speech to the Greater Houston Ministerial Association

  Reverend Meza, Reverend Reck, I'm grateful for your generous invitation to speak my views..... While the so-called religious issue is necessarily and properly the chief topic here tonight, I want to emphasize from the outset that we have far more critical issues to face in the 1960 election; the spread of Communist influence until it now festers 90 miles off the coast of Florida--the humiliating treatment of our President and Vice-President by those who no longer respect our power--the hungry children I saw in West Virginia, the old people who cannot pay their doctor bills, the families forced to give up their farms--an America with too many slums, with too few schools, and too late to the moon and outer space.   These are the real issues which should decide this campaign. And they are not religious issues --for war and hunger and ignorance and despair know no religious barriers. But because I am a Catholic, and no Catholic has ever been elected President, the real issues in this campaign have been obscured--perhaps deliberately, in some quarters less responsible than this. So it is apparently necessary for me to state once again--not what kind of church I believe in--for that should be important only to me--but what kind of America I believe in. I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute--where no Catholic prelate would tell the President (should he be Catholic) how to act, and no Protestant ministers would tell their parishioners for whom to vote--where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference--and where no man is denied public office merely because his religion differs from the President who might appoint him or the people who might elect him. I believe in an America that is officially neither Catholic, Protestant, nor Jewish--where no public official either requests or accepts instruction on public policy from the Pope, the National Council of Churches or any other ecclesiastical source--where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly on the general populace or the public acts of its officials--where religious liberty is so indivisible that an act against one church is treated as an act against all. For while this year it may be a Catholic against whom the finger of suspicion is pointed, in other years it has been, and may someday be again, a Jew--or a Quaker--or a Unitarian--or a Baptist. It was Virginia's harassment of Baptist preachers, for example, that helped lead to Jefferson's Statute of Religious Freedom. Today, I may be the victim--but tomorrow it may be you- -until the whole fabric of our harmonious society is ripped at a time of great National peril. Finally, I believe in an America where religious intolerance will someday end--where all men and all churches are treated as equal--where every man has the right to attend or not attend the church of his choice--where there is no Catholic vote, no anti-Catholic vote, no bloc voting of any kind--where Catholics, Protestants and Jews, at both the lay and pastoral level, will refrain from those attitudes of disdain and division which have so often marred their works in the past, and promote instead the American ideal of brotherhood. This is the kind of America in which I believe. And it represents the kind of Presidency in which I believe--a great office which must neither be humbled by making it the instrument of any one religious group nor tarnished by arbitrarily withholding its occupancy from the members of any one religious group. I believe in a President whose religious views are his own private affair, neither imposed by him upon the nation nor imposed by the nation upon him as a condition to holding that office. I would not look with favor upon a President working to subvert the first amendment's guarantees of religious liberty. Nor would our system of checks and balances permit him to do so- -and neither do I look with favor upon those who would work to subvert Article VI of the Constitution by requiring a religious test--even by indirection--for it. If they disagree with that safeguard they should be out openly working to repeal it. I want a Chief Executive whose public acts are responsible to all groups and obligated to none--who can attend any ceremony, service or dinner his office may appropriately require of him- -and who's fulfillment of his Presidential oath is not limited or conditioned by any religious oath, ritual or obligation. This is the kind of America I believe in--and this is the kind I fought for in the South Pacific, and the kind my brother died for in Europe. No one suggested then that we may have a "divided loyalty", that we "did not believe in liberty", or that we belonged to a disloyal group that threatened "freedom for which our forefathers died." And in fact, this is the kind of America for which our forefathers died--when they fled here to escape religious test oaths that denied office to members of less favored churches--when they fought for the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom-- and when the fought at the shrine I visited today, the Alamo. For side by side with Bowie and Crockett died McCafferty and Bailey and Carey--but no one knows whether they were Catholic or not. For there was no religious test at the Alamo. I ask you tonight to follow in that tradition--to judge on the basis of my record of 14 years in Congress--on my declared stands against an Ambassador to the Vatican, against unconstitutional aid to parochial schools, and against any boycott of the public schools (which I have attended myself)--instead of judging me on the basis of these pamphlets and publications we have all seen that carefully select quotations out of context from the statements of Catholic church leaders, usually in other countries, frequently in other centuries, and always omitting, of course, the statement of American Bishops in 1948 which strongly endorsed our church-state separation, and which more nearly reflects the views of almost every American Catholic. I do not consider these other quotations binding upon my public acts--why should you? But let me say, with respect to other countries, that I am wholly opposed to the state being used by any religious group, Catholic or Protestant, to compel, prohibit, or persecute the free exercise of any other religion. And I hope that you and I condemn with equal fervor those nations which deny their Presidency to Protestants and those which deny it to Catholics. And rather than cite the misdeeds of those who differ, I would cite the record of the Catholic church in such nations as Ireland and France--and the independence of such statesmen as Adenauer and De Gaulle. But let me stress again that these are my views--for contrary to common Newspaper usage--I am not the Catholic candidate for President. I am the Democratic Party's candidate for President who happens also to be a Catholic. I do not speak for my church on public matters--and the church does not speak for me. Whatever issue may come before me as President--on birth control, divorce, censorship, gambling or any other subject--I will make my decision in accordance with these views, in accordance with what my conscience tells me to be the national interest, and without regard to outside religious pressures or dictates. And no power or threat of punishment could cause me to decide otherwise. But if the time should ever come--and I do not concede any conflict to be even remotely possible--when my office would require me to either violate my conscience or violate the national interest, then I would resign the office; and I hope any conscientious public servant would do the same. But I do not intend to apologize for the views to my critic of either Catholic or Protestant faith--nor do I intend to disavow either my views or my church in order to win this election. If I should lose on the real issues, I shall return to my seat in the Senate, satisfied that I had tried my best and was fairly judged. But if this election is decided on the basis that 40 million Americans lost their chance of being President on the day they were baptized, then it is the whole nation that will be the loser, in the eyes of Catholics and non-Catholics around the world, and in the eyes of our own people. But if, on the other hand, I should win the election, then I shall devote every effort of mind and spirit to fulfilling the oath of the Presidency--practically identical, I might add, to the oath I have taken for 14 years in the Congress. For without reservation, I can "solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution...So Help Me God."

• .....But actually, before September the 11th, this global movement with a global ideology was already in being. September the 11th was the culmination of what they wanted to do.   And if there's any mistake that's ever made in these circumstances, it's if people are surprised that it's tough to fight, because you're up against an ideology that's prepared to us any means at all, including killing any number of wholly innocent people....
  ....And it is going to be difficult. Look, we've got a problem even in our own Muslim communities in Europe who will half buy into some of the propaganda that's pushed at it _the purpose of America is to suppress Islam; you know, Britain's joined with America in the suppression of Islam.

regarding the Perversion of Islam by the Radicals that has wreaked mayhem across the Globe. The wars and attacks stretch from
Chechnya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Karachi,n Bali, Nigeria, Turkey, Spain England, France, United States of America and now Lebanon. As a friend of Michael Medved said: "If Hezbollah and Hams give up there weapons there will be peace. If Israel gives up its weapons it will cease to exist!" I think the same holds for the Occidental(Western) World. This I can say with confidence in light of the message by Al Qaeda's number 2 Ayman al-Zawahiri yesterday:

• "In a taped message broadcast by Al-Jazeera television, Ayman al-Zawahiri said the terrorist organization would not stand idly by while "these (Israeli) shells burn our brothers.
  "All the world is a battlefield open in front of us," said the Egyptian-born al-Zawahiri, second-in-command to Osama bin Laden.
  "The war with Israel does not depend on cease-fires ... . It is a Jihad for the sake of God and will last until (our) religion prevails ... from Spain to Iraq," al-Zawahiri said. "We will attack everywhere." Spain was controlled by Arab Muslims until they were driven from the country at the turn of the 16th century.
  Al-Zawahiri declared that Arab regimes were complicit in Israeli fighting against Hezbollah and the Palestinians.
  "My fellow Muslims, it is obvious that Arab and Islamic governments are not only impotent but also complicit...and you are alone on the battlefield. Rely on God and fight your enemies...make yourselves martyrs."
  

The tone of P.M. Blair's words reminded me of Cal Alpert, an American Jew and a syndicated columnist, who moved to Haifa Israel and died in May 2005 at age 92 on Israel’s 57th Independence Day, and wrte an article in 2000 over a year before 9-11 entitled "Islamic Threat is not to Israel Alone": click on article to enlarge for reading.

Crows Nest view of Huntsman's McCain endorsement

Jon of Mangled Cat has not only been spot on with his speculations on the meaning and motivation behind Governor Jon Huntsman's endorsement of Senator Rino McCain's '08 Presidential but has provided the best insight of any blog I've read to date! Check him our at those here and here. There is nothing Mangled about his interpretations and he's been quicker than a Cat with his breaking analysis...

As a Physician practicing in Utah for the last year and like Mangled Cat a recent transplant to the Beehive State, I too have a great vantage point to comment on the Motives behind Gov. Huntsman's surprising endorsement of Senator Cain McRino of Arizona. I say surprising because this is the reaction that all of my LDS patients in my office displayed yesterday. Two actively practicing Mormons indicated surprise indeed and indicated that Huntsman is doing what suits his future political ambitions. One patient who is not actively practicing her LDS faith( known as a Jack Mormon) reactive with incredulity and indicated Huntsman would "burn in hell" for abandoning Mitt Romney, a fellow Mormon.

Furthermore, a Physician associate of mine in my practice, who has been a Bishop for quite sometime in the LDS church was also very surprised on Huntsman's decision to back Senator Cain McRino. His take was that recent polls suggest that American voters would be reluctant to vote for a Mormon candidate for the highest office in the land. Thus, Gov. Huntsman whose father is supporting Mitt Romney is probably setting his sights on a bigger political pond beyond Utah in a Cain McRino Administration.

• The second thing I found came courtesy of TKS with a great breakdown of a poll conducted to find out candidates that are deemed "acceptable." The headline states:
• 41 percent of Republicans find McCain "not acceptable as a nominee."
• I thought that was interesting and wanted to get a look at the raw data. Romney is mentioned as well with about the same percentage rating him "not acceptable." (The even more interesting number for me was the 27 percent who have no opinion. That is a number that can and must be moved to the acceptable column for Romney and can be done with an LDS education campaign tailored to eliminate the stigma attached to members of the LDS church. We'll save that post for another day.) That number clearly has to be an alarm bell for McCain. He perceives himself such a darling of the media that it would be easy for him to get caught up in the hype and believe himself more popular than he actually is. He has some serious hurdles to face (Gang of 14, Immigration, McCain Feingold, just to name a few) and I think he will encounter some difficulty in the primaries.
  

However, this LDS Bishop friend of mine feels this is short sighted since he doesn't think the GOP base will nominate Senator Cain McRino(see recent gallop poll). Additionally Gov. Huntsman's Mandarin Fluency, acquired during an LDS Mission to Taiwan, his tenure as ambassador to Singapore and his experience as a deputy U.S. trade representative to Asia and Africa have fueled his aspirations beyond Utah Politics.

• From Deseret News
• Craig Goldman, executive director of McCain's PAC, said Huntsman is expected to "boost (McCain's) efforts as far as the PAC goes in all the Western states, including Utah." Huntsman will help choose the Western candidates who receive money from McCain's PAC.
• the pair met only about a year ago, when Huntsman approached McCain for help in dealing with the controversial immigration issue. Huntsman, a former U.S. ambassador and trade representative, apparently hit it off with McCain.
• By March, Huntsman was traveling to Iraq to visit the troops, at McCain's invitation, as part of a small delegation of governors and members of Congress. This summer, McCain addressed the Utah GOP state convention at Huntsman's request.
• There, McCain cited Huntsman as a rising star in the Republican party who he expected to do big things on a national, or even international, scale. For Huntsman, that could include serving in a GOP presidential administration.

This Bishop further feels that this Huntsman's move will not be a stumbling block for Governor Mitt Romney's support from Utah's Mormons. He further assures me that he believes Mitt Romney will be strongly opposed to Abortion too.

I also asked these LDS folks were they think Utah's Senator Orin Hatch will side on the Cain McRino/Huntsman pairing. All had the same sentiment, to a person, and said they 'like him very much but he is a politician and he'll align himself with what suits him best politically.'

This is certainly a very informal poll of the reactions from Utahans but like I've said earlier I have a nice feel for the pulse of Mormons in my crows' nest up here in Northern Utah.

Once again it is fascinating to see that the old adage "Politics makes strange bedfellows" is so so true even among the Ladder Day Saints stronghold of Utah.....

Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. has picked his preferred presidential candidate for the 2008 Republican nomination — and it's not fellow Mormon and former Utah Olympic leader Mitt Romney.

• Instead, Huntsman's office said Wednesday that Utah's governor will serve as one of many co-chairmen of early front runner Sen. John McCain's political-action committee, Straight Talk America.
       
• "The governor has a great deal of respect for Gov. Romney of Massachusetts.....He felt he did an admirable job as head of our Olympic committee here in Utah and is a strong and effective governor in Massachusetts."said Huntsman's spokesman, Mike Mower.

Now if that is not a luke warm Hallmark Polite dribble!  For Huntsman certainly A welcome loss or departure aka "Good Riddance to Good Rubbish"  Oh and by the way and Gov. Romney "don't let the door hit you on the way out!"  Gov. Huntsman Romney gets a Gold Medal for his saving performance at your state's scandal plagued 2002 Winter games!....

• But in the end, Huntsman found he had more in common with McCain when it came to Western issues, as well as foreign policy, Mower said, adding many co-chairmen of early front runner Sen. John McCain's political-action committee, Straight Talk America.
• But there's some suggestion a President Romney might be more cautious about appointing a fellow Mormon to a key role.
• Recent polls have shown that about one-third of registered voters would not be willing to vote for an LDS presidential candidate.

Thus McCain must see great advantage to bifurcating the Mormon vote and Romney's base!

• "It's no secret that McCain has actively courted Gov. Huntsman, presumably because he sees Gov. Romney as his biggest rival if they both get into the race," Jowers said. Still, he said, Romney shouldn't be hurt by not having the support of Utah's governor.
  
• The governor's father, Jon Huntsman Sr., is one of Romney's biggest supporters.
• "It was absolutely a surprise," said Kirk Jowers, head of the University of Utah's Hinckley Institute of Politics and legal counsel to Romney's Commonwealth PACs. "The Huntsman family, including the governor, have been extremely supportive of Gov. Romney."
  
• Huntsman appears to be the first governor who has jumped on board with a potential presidential candidate, Jowers said.

And

• Kelly Patterson, director of Brigham Young University's Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy, said it is early for such an announcement.
  
• "It's just a strong signal that presidential politics starts earlier and earlier,"Patterson said"The big advantage is if and when that candidate is successful, you were there at the beginning. It's a gamble that could pay off big."

My pal, Jon of Mangled Cat who I believe broke this story on the Blogosphere yesterday gives the best deliberation of Gov. John Huntsman's Jr. endorsement of RINO McCain that I've read so far. Why wouldn't Gov. John Huntsman Jr see this as a Wonderful opportunity to leap frog over his fellow Mormon Politician?
Consider the following:

• Both Governors are wealthy, smart and ambitious with great Pedigrees:
• Utah's Gov is the son of billionaire Wharton School of Business Grad and Time Magazine's sixth largest philanthropist in the United States in 2000. Sr. also worked as a staff member in the Nixon administration, and finally worked for Dow Chemical Company before starting his own business in 1982. That business grew into a multi-billion dollar company, Huntsman Chemical.
• Massachusetts governor is also the son of former Michigan Governor George W. Romney who was the first chairman of the American Motors Corporation.
• These two Governors are Contemporaries probably very competitive.
• Mitt Romney is more famous on the National Stage and is getting great grades for his successful tenure in the Blue state of Massachusetts. Additionally he is getting lots of press from his management of the BIG DIG fiasco which has become not only a money pit but a grave too!
• Huntsman has international experience from his days in the the two Bush Administrations as Ambassador to Singapore in the administration of President George H.W. Bush and as a trade minister to East Asia in the George W. Bush Administration.
• Romney also has international experience and contacts while providing the leadership that the Salt Lake City 2002 games were in trouble.
• Huntsman's name is associated with sporting games too! Huntman's World Senior Games held yearly in St. George Utah...
• In 1989 Jon M. Huntsman, Chairman of the Huntsman Corporation, became the Games' principal sponsor after recognizing that the Games not only fostered lifetime fitness, but also expanded Utah's economic vitality. A proud supporter of the Games, the Huntsman family continues to open the Games personally, with a warm welcome to the athletes and the lighting of the torch in traditional Olympic fashion during at first week Ceremonies.

• McCain sees a way to chop the legs out from underneath Romney, his dark horse rival for the GOP nomination. Divide and conquer must be McCain's strategy. Not to mention the fat wallet a future Huntman's VP or Cabinet appointee could bring!

True to the Adage "Politics makes strange bed fellows" in the rough and tumble Olympics of a US Presidential Race, this next quadrennial Electorial Competition looks to be fun and most interesting!....

Gov. John Huntsman want to be Senator McCain's V.P.

I believe my buddy Mangled Cat's Post lightning fast post regarding Gov. John Huntsman Jr endorsing the Senator John McCain Ticket for President means that he could be his Vice Presidential running mate for 2008. McCain is worried about Gov. Mitt Romney and wants to neutralize the Mormon and Conservative vote by bringing the Utah Chief Execuetive on board! Additionally the Utah Gov. has exprience in Asian matters from his days in the Reagan Administration. Additionally he speaks fluent Mandarin and has adopted a Chinese Child! In fact the missles Hezballah is using are Chinese Silk Worm Missles tweaked by the Iranians. Thus, after the Middle East the next most important troubled spot for the USA is China and Korea! Gov. Huntsman would be a good Political Chess Move for Senator McCain. Additionally my wife reminds me that Gov. Romney is somewhat murky/evolving when it comes to the abortion issue. Who's vote to yoy think McCain wants to split? Hello Mr. V.P Huntman Jr.....

• from CBS News last Month. I was not aware of Gov. Romney coming to Utah twice. I knew he went to Arizona but I did not know they had a big Mormon Population to!

• Within seven days, the Republican made two appearances in Utah, including one on Monday, tapping fellow Mormons and those who liked his work running the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
  
  He visited Michigan, the state where he was born and where his father, George, served as governor in the 1960s. Romney also visited California, a virtual ATM for presidential candidates, where he has been cultivating wealthy donors in conservative Orange County.
  
  And this past weekend, the Massachusetts governor delivered a speech in Arizona, home to a politically active Mormon population and Sen. John McCain, the Republican front-runner for the nomination.
  
• Gov. Huntsman was deputy assistant secretary of commerce for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, as well as U.S. ambassador to Singapore (the youngest U.S. ambassador in a century). He is fluent in Mandarin. He also served as a deputy U.S. trade representative and U.S. trade ambassador under President George W. Bush. He is a 1st term Governor and is not up for re-election until 2008. Given his fluency in Mandarin and the China predicament today is he trying to get himself into the running for the VP spot on a McCain ticket? He has also adopted a child from China! He attended the University of Utah and graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. So he is an Ivy League grad also.
• But the largest single donor from Utah is billionaire philanthropist Jon Huntsman Sr., who has given $128,500, according to the most current filings in four states and the federal government reviewed by the Morning News.

Reverend Meza, Reverend Reck, I'm grateful for your generous invitation to speak my views..... While the so-called religious issue is necessarily and properly the chief topic here tonight, I want to emphasize from the outset that we have far more critical issues to face in the 1960 election; the spread of Communist influence until it now festers 90 miles off the coast of Florida--the humiliating treatment of our President and Vice-President by those who no longer respect our power--the hungry children I saw in West Virginia, the old people who cannot pay their doctor bills, the families forced to give up their farms--an America with too many slums, with too few schools, and too late to the moon and outer space. These are the real issues which should decide this campaign. And they are not religious issues --for war and hunger and ignorance and despair know no religious barriers. But because I am a Catholic, and no Catholic has ever been elected President, the real issues in this campaign have been obscured--perhaps deliberately, in some quarters less responsible than this. So it is apparently necessary for me to state once again--not what kind of church I believe in--for that should be important only to me--but what kind of America I believe in. I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute--where no Catholic prelate would tell the President (should he be Catholic) how to act, and no Protestant ministers would tell their parishioners for whom to vote--where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference--and where no man is denied public office merely because his religion differs from the President who might appoint him or the people who might elect him. I believe in an America that is officially neither Catholic, Protestant, nor Jewish--where no public official either requests or accepts instruction on public policy from the Pope, the National Council of Churches or any other ecclesiastical source--where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly on the general populace or the public acts of its officials--where religious liberty is so indivisible that an act against one church is treated as an act against all. For while this year it may be a Catholic against whom the finger of suspicion is pointed, in other years it has been, and may someday be again, a Jew--or a Quaker--or a Unitarian--or a Baptist. It was Virginia's harassment of Baptist preachers, for example, that helped lead to Jefferson's Statute of Religious Freedom. Today, I may be the victim--but tomorrow it may be you- -until the whole fabric of our harmonious society is ripped at a time of great National peril. Finally, I believe in an America where religious intolerance will someday end--where all men and all churches are treated as equal--where every man has the right to attend or not attend the church of his choice--where there is no Catholic vote, no anti-Catholic vote, no bloc voting of any kind--where Catholics, Protestants and Jews, at both the lay and pastoral level, will refrain from those attitudes of disdain and division which have so often marred their works in the past, and promote instead the American ideal of brotherhood. This is the kind of America in which I believe. And it represents the kind of Presidency in which I believe--a great office which must neither be humbled by making it the instrument of any one religious group nor tarnished by arbitrarily withholding its occupancy from the members of any one religious group. I believe in a President whose religious views are his own private affair, neither imposed by him upon the nation nor imposed by the nation upon him as a condition to holding that office. I would not look with favor upon a President working to subvert the first amendment's guarantees of religious liberty. Nor would our system of checks and balances permit him to do so- -and neither do I look with favor upon those who would work to subvert Article VI of the Constitution by requiring a religious test--even by indirection--for it. If they disagree with that safeguard they should be out openly working to repeal it. I want a Chief Executive whose public acts are responsible to all groups and obligated to none--who can attend any ceremony, service or dinner his office may appropriately require of him- -and who's fulfillment of his Presidential oath is not limited or conditioned by any religious oath, ritual or obligation. This is the kind of America I believe in--and this is the kind I fought for in the South Pacific, and the kind my brother died for in Europe. No one suggested then that we may have a "divided loyalty", that we "did not believe in liberty", or that we belonged to a disloyal group that threatened "freedom for which our forefathers died." And in fact, this is the kind of America for which our forefathers died--when they fled here to escape religious test oaths that denied office to members of less favored churches--when they fought for the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom-- and when the fought at the shrine I visited today, the Alamo. For side by side with Bowie and Crockett died McCafferty and Bailey and Carey--but no one knows whether they were Catholic or not. For there was no religious test at the Alamo. I ask you tonight to follow in that tradition--to judge on the basis of my record of 14 years in Congress--on my declared stands against an Ambassador to the Vatican, against unconstitutional aid to parochial schools, and against any boycott of the public schools (which I have attended myself)--instead of judging me on the basis of these pamphlets and publications we have all seen that carefully select quotations out of context from the statements of Catholic church leaders, usually in other countries, frequently in other centuries, and always omitting, of course, the statement of American Bishops in 1948 which strongly endorsed our church-state separation, and which more nearly reflects the views of almost every American Catholic. I do not consider these other quotations binding upon my public acts--why should you? But let me say, with respect to other countries, that I am wholly opposed to the state being used by any religious group, Catholic or Protestant, to compel, prohibit, or persecute the free exercise of any other religion. And I hope that you and I condemn with equal fervor those nations which deny their Presidency to Protestants and those which deny it to Catholics. And rather than cite the misdeeds of those who differ, I would cite the record of the Catholic church in such nations as Ireland and France--and the independence of such statesmen as Adenauer and De Gaulle. But let me stress again that these are my views--for contrary to common Newspaper usage--I am not the Catholic candidate for President. I am the Democratic Party's candidate for President who happens also to be a Catholic. I do not speak for my church on public matters--and the church does not speak for me. Whatever issue may come before me as President--on birth control, divorce, censorship, gambling or any other subject--I will make my decision in accordance with these views, in accordance with what my conscience tells me to be the national interest, and without regard to outside religious pressures or dictates. And no power or threat of punishment could cause me to decide otherwise. But if the time should ever come--and I do not concede any conflict to be even remotely possible--when my office would require me to either violate my conscience or violate the national interest, then I would resign the office; and I hope any conscientious public servant would do the same. But I do not intend to apologize for the views to my critic of either Catholic or Protestant faith--nor do I intend to disavow either my views or my church in order to win this election. If I should lose on the real issues, I shall return to my seat in the Senate, satisfied that I had tried my best and was fairly judged. But if this election is decided on the basis that 40 million Americans lost their chance of being President on the day they were baptized, then it is the whole nation that will be the loser, in the eyes of Catholics and non-Catholics around the world, and in the eyes of our own people. But if, on the other hand, I should win the election, then I shall devote every effort of mind and spirit to fulfilling the oath of the Presidency--practically identical, I might add, to the oath I have taken for 14 years in the Congress. For without reservation, I can "solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution...So Help Me God."

Imad Mughniyah reportedly is in Iraq. You may not have heard of him, but every intelligence officer in the West has.
Born in Lebanon in 1962, Mughniyah got his start working for Yasser Arafat, but soon switched to the Iranian/Syrian backed Hezbollah, for whom he currently is operations chief.
Mughniyah masterminded the bombings of the U.S. Embassy and the Marine barracks in Beirut in 1983, and the bombing of the Israeli Embassy in Argentina a decade later. Many think he was behind the bombing of the Khobar Towers barracks in Saudi Arabia in 1996.
Though a Shi'ite Muslim for whom Wahhabis like Osama bin Laden purportedly have disdain, Mughniyah has had connections to al Qaeda since the early 1990s. During his trial for his role in the 1998 bombings of the U.S. Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, al Qaeda operative Ali Muhammad testified he introduced Mughniyah to bin Laden in Somalia in 1993. German terrorism expert Rolf Tophoven said last year that bin Laden has put Mughniyah in charge of al Qaeda operations in the Middle East and Africa.
Mughniyah was in Iran until early August, according to the Saudi newspaper Asharq al-Awsat. While in Iran, Mughniyah met with Ayman al Zawahiri, al Qaeda's second in command, and with Osama's son Said bin Laden, said Michael Ledeen, a terrorism expert for the American Enterprise Institute.
U.S. authorities have said the truck bombs used to attack the U.N. compound in Baghdad Aug. 19 and the Imam Ali mosque in Najaf Aug. 29 were virtually identical. Mr. Ledeen sees Mughniyah's fingerprints on both.
Many doubt a Shi'ite Muslim would attack the holiest of Shi'ite shrines. But, Mr. Ledeen notes, the leader of Hezbollah in Iraq, Ayatollah Moqtada al-Sadr, was conveniently absent from the Friday prayers where his archrival, the Ayatollah Baqir al-Hakim, was murdered.
Wahhabis have no love for Shi'ites, and vice versa. And Islamist terrorists of both faiths despise the Ba'athists, whom they regard as apostates. But terrorists who hate each other will work together if united by a greater hatred, or a greater fear. The oldest adage in diplomacy is: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
There is no doubt that the enemies of freedom and democracy are being drawn to Iraq, like moths to a flame. I'm skeptical of reports that "thousands" of foreign terrorists have entered Iraq in the last month, but hundreds certainly have, and it only takes dozens to conduct suicide truck bombings.
The foreign terrorists should remind us we are in a world war with Islamic terrorists. Their presence in Iraq means it will take us longer, and cost us more, in blood and treasure, to achieve our objectives there. But the short-term problem may be a long-term blessing. By concentrating their forces in Iraq, our adversaries are making it easier for us to defeat them.
The terrorists are drawn to Iraq out of weakness, not strength. "Two years after the attacks on the United States, Osama bin Laden's leadership cadre has been isolated and weakened and is increasingly reliant on the violent actions of local radicals around the world to maintain its profile," wrote Peter Finn and Susan Schmidt in The Washington Post last Sunday. "But the al Qaeda network is determined to open a new front in Iraq to sustain itself as the vanguard of radical Islamic groups."
The terrorists -- and the governments that sponsor them -- realize that if freedom and democracy take root in Iraq, they are doomed. They have to fight there, even though it isn't good ground for them. As the terrorists concentrate, they become easier for our intelligence analysts to track. And our soldiers can kill them there without reading them their Miranda rights first. Geography, time, and -- increasingly -- the Iraqi people, are on our side.
In Iraq, the United States is on the tactical defensive, but the strategic offensive. The famed British strategist B.H. Liddell Hart said this was the very strongest posture in which to be. The terrorists understand this. Too bad so few of our journalists and politicians do.

  He actually tested his guys in explosives on a plane 10 years ago, that killed a Japanese tourist on that plane to test the amount of explosives, et cetera. But fortunately, our intelligence were able to intercept his plans to blow up these planes about 8 or 9 years ago, but he has been on the run since then.
  
  KING: All right, now somebody sees one of these people or thinks they see one of these people. What do you tell them to do?
  
  WALSH: I always say to this, have the courage to do it. Call "America's Most Wanted." We have been on 15 years, we have caught 689 fugitives in 30 countries, and 15 of the FBI 10 most wanted because you know why? Cops don't answer the phone, Larry. We -- our phone operators answer the -- no lines are tapped or traced.

One of the master minds behind this horrible plot was Khalid Sheikh Mohamed. He worked closely with Philippine based group Abu Sayyafs, an extremist Islamic group. Khalid Sheikh Mohamed is also said to enjoy the protection of this rogue Asian gang. He has never been caught.

Hizbullah with Iran's Rockets

Hugh Hewitt's Israeli's Defense Force Veteran and Expert Yoni Tidi reports thousands of Iranian Missiles are in Hizbullah hands. I have tracked down their pictures and they are mobile and look like nasty and menacing like these!

Iranian missles to Hizbullah

• "Iranian official: 11,500 missile and rockets transferred to Hizbullah
• According to the A-Sharaq Alwasat news agency, an Iranian military source said that Iran transferred 11,500 missiles and rockets to Hizbullah between the years 1992 to 2005.
• According to their report, Hizbullah currently has four kinds of advanced ground-to-ground missiles: the short-range FajR (100 km range), the Iranian 130 missile (90-110 km range), the Shahin missile (up to 150 km range) and a rocket 335 mm in diameter (150 km range). (Roee Nahmias)"

Men of the WEST Beware!

The Israeli Eilat Class (Sa’ar 5) is 1227 ton, 260-foot ship built in the USA and is called a "corvette", its weaponry and 33 knot speed are comparable to a frigate. It has a stealthy design, sonar, torpedoes, missile launchers, a gun mount, and a helicopter hanger large enough for a Navy H-60 helicopter. The Navy could greatly increase this frigate's lethality by adding the US Army's new EFOG missile system to strike small craft and targets ashore. The Sa’ar 5 only requires a crew of 71, costs far less to buy, support, and operate. Its smaller size makes it more difficult to target and its smaller draft allows it to operate in shallow waters. These three "Israeli" ships are built by Ingalls shipyard in Mississippi in 1995, the same location where the current Aegis destroyers are made.


Haaretz reports:

• The body of one of the four missing Israel Defense Forces soldiers on a warship that was attacked by Hezbollah off the coast of Lebanon was found Saturday aboard the damaged vessel, military officials said. He was identified as Staff Sergeant Tal Amgar, 21, from Ashdod.
• The incident occured close to 8 P.M., west of Beirut, when the INS Spear, a Saar-5 Class destroyer, was on patrol as part of the naval blockade imposed on Lebanon since Wednesday.
• The Saar-5 class is equipped with very advanced defensive systems. However, these were not in operation at the time of attack, partly because of the number of IAF aircraft operating in the area. It was feared that if the system was in operation, it would mistakenly identify friendly aircraft as enemy targets and engage them.
• Initial assessment held that the ship had been struck by an unmanned aerial vehicle loaded with explosives. However, later in the night it became clear that a missile had hit INS Spear.
  
  The missile, is a C-802 radar-guided anti-shipping missile manufactured in Iran using Chinese technology. Its range is estimated to be about 110 km.
  
  Apparently two such missiles were fired on Friday night, one of them hitting INS Spear and the other a Cambodian-flagged freighter, 60 km off shore. A dozen Egyptian sailors from the freighter were picked up by another commercial vessel after their ship sunk following the missile strike.
  
  According to Brigadier General Noam Feig, head of the naval shipyards, the Saar-5 crew "fought the flames and managed to regain self-propulsion. For a while the ship had lost some of its ability to maneuver."
  
  Close to midnight the ship made its way to port where its rudders were repaired.
  
  IDF sources said Saturday that Iran transfered the C-802 missiles to Hezbollah, although intelligence officers noted that they were not sure whether Iranian advisers were involved in the launching of the missiles.
  
  Brigadier Feig said that the Navy had no intelligence that such missiles were in the Hezbollah arsenal. "We were under the impression that we were operating beyond the range of missiles," he said.
  
  In response to the attack, naval and air forces destroyed radar stations belonging to the Lebanese army. IDF sources said that the Lebanese army radar took part in the attack against INS Spear.

Israel: New Hezbollah rockets can reach Tel Aviv and Be'er Sheva

• Israel believes Hezbollah has missiles that can hit most of Israel, and which could even strike Be'er Sheva under optimum conditions.
  
  Iran supplied Hezbollah with solid-fuel, Zelzal-2 missiles with a 200-km range, but these are not very accurate, since they do not have a self-guidance system.
  
  The Zelzal-2 missiles, intended to strike broad targets such as communities and cities, are equipped with explosive warheads weighing up to 600 kilograms. The missiles are a later version of the Zelzal-1 missiles, which Iran first displayed in September 2005 at a military parade in Tehran, together with six Shihab-3 missiles.
  
  Hezbollah's original Katyusha rockets had a range of 12 kilometers to 22 kilometers. At a later stage, it obtained Iranian Fajar-3 and Fajar-5 rockets, with a range of 45 kilometers and 75 kilometers, respectively. Hezbollah did not use these rockets until the current conflict.
